Abstract
The parapharyngeal schwannoma usually arises from Schwann cells of the vagus nerve or the cervical sympathetic chain. A Horner's syndrome appearing prior to surgery is unusual. A preoperative Horner's syndrome may be taken as presumptive evidence
of a
schwannoma involving the cervical sympathetic chain in the case of a solitary encapsulated tumor. We experienced recently a case of parapharyngeal schwannoma with Horner's syndrome. This case was treated with finger dissection through
transcervical
approach. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:8, 1995)
